 3-Day Workshop

Designed for early intervention, the modules below make up our evidence-based training for treating high school students in the wake of a school shooting.

1

Module 1: Adolescent Trauma Responses

In this module, clinicians learn about adolescent trauma responses through research. This stage includes identity disruption, mood changes, and hypervigilance. We will also cover high-risk factors for clinicians to be aware of when treating survivors.

2

Module 2: Grief and Loss

In this module, we focus on the differences between trauma and grief. We will also inform appropriate and inappropriate topics to engage with, as well as how to handle mixed responses.

3

Module 3: Trauma-Informed Care

In this module, we review emotional regulation and grounding techniques. Not only does this help stabilize survivors, but it also leads to adolescent psychoeducation.

4

Module 4: Early Intervention Skills

In this module, clinicians will continue to review sensory stabilization techniques and safety planning if risk behaviors are identified in a student.

5

Module 5: Clinician Self-Care

This module centers on secondary trauma and how to recognize it. Treating survivors is heavy, difficult work, so it's crucial that clinicians can care for themselves as well.

6

Module 6: Simulation Skills

In this module, we put the previous skills into practice with a few simulated scenarios. This gives clinicians an opportunity to test their understanding and identify areas for development.
